The Sun is the central star of our solar system. In a luminosity class it is a dwarf, and in an H-R diagram a main sequence star with a spectral class of G2. The Sun is located in a spiral arm of our Galaxy, in the so-called Orion's arm, some 30,000 light-years from the Galaxy's centre. From Earth the distance to the Sun is 150 million km, i.e. some 8 light-minutes.
The Sun is one among the 300 billion stars in our Galaxy known by the name Milky Way. The distance to the galactic centre is 30,000 light-years. The Sun orbits around the centre of the Milky Way in about 225 million years, which equals to one galactic year. Thus, the Sun has a velocity of 220 kilometres per second.
